Spotlight Series:

Genevieve Gergis

Bestia, Bavel & Saffy's

         Hello Neighbor!
I have many fond memories growing up (pre-kindergarten) and lying on the carpet in front of the TV in my childhood home, my unicorn (“Uni”) in one hand and an apple juice in the other, watching Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood as my mom was in the kitchen either cooking or tidying up the house and my sister was at school. I LOVED everything about that show. Being that I was a very hyperactive kid there was always a certain calm that came over me while watching it. I loved how Mr. Rogers would get frequent visits from the postman and other folks in his neighborhood. At a young age this small detail instilled in me the belief that being part of a strong community is so important.
Flash forward to today, we are now lucky enough to have our office in sunny Los Angeles, which is such a treat! There’s so much talent bubbling in our own close-knit neighborhood, and in the spirit of Mr. Rogers’ spotlighting everyday standouts I thought it would be fun to introduce you to some of the friends in our Los Angeles neighborhood and give you a peek inside their creative worlds. We hope you are as inspired by these incredible women as we are! -Laura ODell

Get to know Genevieve:

1. Tell us a little about yourself and how you and Ori decided to open your third restaurant in LA, Saffy's.

I am insane. Also, that insanity is why I opened a third restaurant.

2. How is it working alongside your husband? Do you ever find that it's hard to not talk about work when you're both not working?

We work together pretty harmoniously most of the time, which we did not expect. We are almost always working so I'll get back to you on that if we ever find the time to not work.

3. If you had to pick one food item and one dessert item that you are most proud of from any of your restaurants what would they be?

I don't think I can answer that questions. That's like asking who is your favorite child. I am proud of all of our children for different reasons.

4. Are you a night owl or an early riser?

Both of us are in between. Ideally, more of a 11:30pm bedtime wake up at 7:00am schedule. Work and a child doesn't always allow that but that would be my ideal schedule.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world, other that LA for one year with your family where would it be?

Cape Cod on a peninsula in a large lighthouse, with a good kitchen - I'll stay in shape from the stairs.
